This is Roz Paterson, she lives down the road from Ostara HQ in Beauly, a small town near Inverness. She is married to her husband Malcolm, and has two beautiful kids; Thea and David.
Roz, unfortunately, was diagnosed last summer with Large Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma (LDBCL), a rare and aggressive blood cancer.
Car-T Cell Therapy is a brand new treatment, so new that it is not yet available on the Scottish NHS. While the treatment is available in England, as a Scottish resident she is ineligible.
Now her only option is to self-fund the treatment in the United States. The massive cost of the treatment itself plus the length of her total stay in a US hospital is pushing the cost to stay with her family at a whopping $700,000/£500,000.
At the time of writing, her Go Fund Me campaign has raised £80,000 from just over 3000 donations in 6 days. The kindness and compassion shown by locals and strangers on the internet have been truly heartwarming. Her story has been picked up by the local and national press and even has Inverness born Hollywood star Karen Gillan giving support on social media.
A fundraising auction is being held at Dingwall Mart on the 2nd of February. We have donated products and vouchers and will have a stall to raise more cash on the day. If you are a business owner and would like to help out with donations, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. The Facebook group for the auction is here – Raising for Roz Auction
If you can, please share Roz’s story and/or donate to this cause.
